Orthodontics

Your smile, at its best

What is Orthodontics?

It is the dental specialty dedicated to correcting the position of the teeth and the jawbones. Its goal is to restore harmony, aesthetics and proper function to your bite, achieving a perfectly aligned and healthy smile.

When is it recommended?

It is recommended when there are alignment or bite problems that affect both your health and your appearance:

✦

Crowded or crooked teeth

Dental misalignment that harms appearance and makes oral hygiene harder.

✦

Gaps between teeth

Spaces that compromise the harmony of your smile and your bite.

✦

Difficulty chewing

Functional problems that can lead to wear or joint pain.

✦

Wear or jaw pain

Signs of an incorrect bite that are best corrected early.

✦

Smile aesthetics

A desire to improve your looks and your confidence when you smile.

Types of Orthodontics

Discover the solutions we have to align your smile with the most advanced technology.

Conventional orthodontics with metal braces

Conventional Orthodontics

The classic treatment with the longest track record in dentistry

It is the traditional treatment that uses high-strength metal brackets bonded to the teeth, joined together by a metal arch that applies gentle, continuous pressure to align them.

Invisible orthodontics with clear aligners

Invisible Orthodontics

Your ideal smile, without anyone noticing

Advanced alignment through clear, removable aligners. The ideal option to transform your smile with maximum discretion, comfort and 3D technology, without changing your lifestyle.

Interceptive orthodontics for children

Children’s Orthodontics

Avoid longer, costlier and more complex treatments in adulthood

A treatment that guides the correct growth of the jawbones and the space the teeth need in children, generally between the ages of 6 and 11, taking advantage of the fact that their bone structures are still developing.

Retainers and maintenance

Retention is the final stage that stabilises the results achieved, preventing the teeth from returning to their original position.

Fixed Retention

An ultra-thin, imperceptible technical filament placed behind the teeth to maintain alignment permanently and without anyone noticing.

Removable Retention

Clear, comfortable aligners to wear exclusively at night, keeping your teeth in their ideal position while you sleep.

At Salud Dental HJC we recommend the following for maintaining your retainers:

  • Clean your removable retainers with lukewarm water and mild soap, never with toothpaste.
  • Always store them in their rigid case when you are not wearing them.
  • Visit us once a year to check that they still fit perfectly.

What is a children’s dental expander?

It is a fixed orthodontic appliance placed in the palate of children to gradually widen an upper jaw that is too narrow. It is used exclusively during the growth stage (between the ages of 6 and 12), taking advantage of the fact that the bones of the mouth are still mouldable and elastic.

✦

It creates space so that the permanent teeth can come through aligned.

✦

It corrects the bite, preventing the child from biting in a crossed or asymmetrical way.

✦

It improves breathing by widening the palate and opening up the nasal passages.

Frequently asked questions about Orthodontics

We answer the questions our patients ask most often.

Does orthodontic treatment hurt?

It doesn’t hurt. It is normal to feel slight pressure or sensitivity during the first few days after fitting the appliance or changing aligner, but it is temporary discomfort that fades quickly as your mouth adapts.

How long does an orthodontic treatment take?

The average duration ranges from 6 to 24 months. The exact time depends on the complexity of each case and on your consistency, something we plan digitally at your first appointment.

At what age can orthodontics start?

There is no age limit. For children, a first check-up is recommended at age 6 or 7. In adults, any time is perfect to align the teeth and improve oral health.

Will my routine or what I can eat change much?

With conventional orthodontics (braces) it is best to avoid very hard or sticky foods. With invisible orthodontics you will have no dietary restrictions, because the aligners come out at mealtimes.

With invisible orthodontics, how many hours a day should I wear the aligners?

To guarantee the success and the speed of your treatment, you must wear your clear aligners between 20 and 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat and to brush your teeth.

Can I get orthodontics if I already have implants or crowns?

Yes, it is perfectly possible. Implants cannot be moved because they are fixed to the bone, but digital orthodontics lets us design the treatment by moving your other teeth around the implant to achieve perfect alignment.

Do I need to have teeth extracted for orthodontic treatment?

In the vast majority of cases it is not necessary. Today, thanks to invisible orthodontics techniques and 3D planning, we make the most of the natural space in your mouth to align your teeth without resorting to extractions.

Do I still need to see my regular dentist during orthodontic treatment?

Yes, it is essential. While we carry out the tooth movements with the orthodontics, you should keep up your regular cleanings and check-ups at the clinic so that your gums and teeth stay 100% healthy.
