What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is the safest and most durable way to replace a missing tooth. It is a small biocompatible titanium fixture that fuses naturally with the jawbone, acting as the root of the tooth you have lost. On top of that base we place a crown — the visible tooth — custom-made to match the shade and shape of your natural teeth exactly, bringing back both the chewing function and the look of your smile as if they were your own.

Your New Smile, Step by Step and Without Surprises

Placing a dental implant is a safe, highly planned outpatient procedure. At Salud Dental HJC we transform your smile in just 4 phases:

3D diagnosis and planning for dental implants

3D Diagnosis and Planning

We study your mouth with an intraoral scanner and a 3D CT scan. We design your implant’s exact position digitally before we ever touch your mouth.

Placement of the titanium dental implant

Implant Placement

Through micro-surgery with local anesthesia — or conscious sedation if you prefer — we place the titanium fixture into the bone. It is a quick and 100% painless procedure.

Osseointegration of the implant with the jawbone

Bone Integration (Osseointegration)

The implant needs between 2 and 4 months to fuse with the bone naturally and firmly, behaving just like a real tooth root. If your case calls for it, you can wear a temporary tooth on the very same day, so you are never left without one.

Definitive crown fixed onto the dental implant

Definitive Crown Placement

Once the implant is solid, we design and bond your custom-made crown — the visible tooth. The result is a restoration that looks and feels exactly like a natural tooth. Your new smile is ready to debut!

Essential Guidelines for a Successful Implant

To guarantee the best possible outcome for your implants, we recommend following these essential guidelines:

Key Aftercare

  • Prior digital diagnosis: Always insist on a complete 3D CT study to accurately assess the quality of your bone before any procedure takes place.
  • Rigorous hygiene: Implants never get cavities, but the tissues supporting them can still become inflamed. Daily brushing plus floss or a water flosser are non-negotiable.
  • Maintenance visits: Keep up with your scheduled check-ups so we can make sure the crown and the gum stay in perfect condition.
  • Avoid tobacco: Smoking is one of the main risk factors that work against the implant bonding properly with the bone.

When Is It Recommended?

Implantology is the best option when one or more teeth are missing, or when you want a more stable and comfortable alternative to traditional removable dentures.

Dental implants are the only definitive solution that replaces the lost tooth right down to the root, offering you advantages no traditional prosthesis can match.

Aesthetics identical to a natural tooth

Nobody will ever notice you have one.

Rock-solid fixation and absolute comfort

Say goodbye to adhesives and dentures that shift when you talk or eat.

Preserved bone health

Prevents jawbone loss and the premature facial aging caused by missing teeth.

Long-term durability

With proper hygiene, implants are designed to last a lifetime.

Our Treatments

At our Palma de Mallorca clinic we do much more than place implants: we take a complete approach to your oral health. We combine implantology with other treatments to guarantee a safe, aesthetic result built for maximum durability.

Immediate Load Implants (Teeth in a Day)

Ideal if you want your smile back fast. We place the implant and a fixed temporary prosthesis on the same day as the surgery.

Bone Regeneration and Bone Grafting

If you have been told you do not have enough bone for an implant, we have advanced techniques that rebuild the volume you need.

Periodontics (Gum Care)

Stable implants need healthy gums. We treat any periodontal problem before we start designing your smile.

Implant-Supported Prostheses (Hybrid or Overdentures)

Complete solutions for patients who have lost their whole dentition and want a fixed, comfortable restoration. We custom-design the visible structure that gets screwed onto your implants. It can range from a single crown to a full hybrid prosthesis (All-on-4 or All-on-6) for patients who have lost all their teeth.

Maxillary Sinus Lift

A specific type of bone graft performed only in the back area of the upper jaw (where the molars are). It works by gaining bone height using the space of the paranasal sinuses, so we can place stable implants of the right length.

Computer-Guided Surgery and Pain-Free Treatment

3D technology for maximum precision and minimal invasion. And this is not general anesthesia: you stay awake, in a state of deep relaxation, comfort and calm.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

We answer the questions our patients ask us most.

Does dental implant treatment hurt?

No, the procedure is completely painless. It is carried out under local anesthesia, so you will feel nothing at all. And if you suffer from anxiety or are simply afraid of the dentist, our Palma clinic offers conscious sedation: you stay in a state of deep relaxation for the whole treatment.

How much does a dental implant cost in Palma de Mallorca?

The price of a dental implant varies depending on each patient’s needs, the crown material (zirconia or porcelain) and whether prior treatments such as bone grafts are required. At our clinic we offer a first assessment consultation free of charge, with fully transparent pricing and financing options tailored to you.

What happens if I do not have enough bone for an implant?

These days, a lack of bone is no longer a dealbreaker. Thanks to advanced bone regeneration and maxillary sinus lift techniques, we can rebuild the tissue volume needed to place implants completely safely and guarantee their long-term stability.

How long does the whole process take?

Placing the implant itself takes barely 30 to 60 minutes. After the surgery, the natural process of integrating with the bone (osseointegration) usually takes between 2 and 4 months before the definitive crown can be placed. That said, with the immediate load technique we can fit a fixed temporary tooth on the same day as the surgery, so you never go a single day without a tooth in your smile.

Can the body reject a dental implant?

Rejection as such does not exist, because titanium is a biocompatible material. What can occur in a very small percentage of cases (less than 2%) is poor healing or an early infection caused by smoking or inadequate hygiene. At our clinic we use 3D digital planning technology that minimizes the risks and lifts the success rate to 98%.

How long does a dental implant last?

Clinical studies show that dental implants have a success rate of over 95-98% at 10 years. Their real long-term lifespan, however, does not depend on the implant itself but on the health of the tissues that hold it in place (the gum and the jawbone) and on how well you care for it. With rigorous oral hygiene and regular check-ups, in many cases implants stay with the patient for life.

Can I smoke after an implant is placed?

We strongly recommend giving up smoking, especially during the first few weeks after surgery. Tobacco reduces blood supply to the gum, noticeably slows healing and triples the risk of infection or of the implant failing to integrate with the bone.

What is peri-implantitis and how can it be avoided?

Peri-implantitis is the inflammation and infection of the bone and gum tissue around an implant, the equivalent of pyorrhea on natural teeth. It is easy to avoid: keep up rigorous oral hygiene at home (brushing and a water flosser) and come in for your yearly check-ups and professional cleanings at our Palma clinic.
